OVERVIEW
The candidate will be responsible for the design, engineering and
development of injection molded and thermoformed plastic parts and
products for the Law Enforcement Industry. Candidate will oversee
projects through every stage of development, from the initial
conceptualization to product release for manufacturing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conceptualization and development of new product IP and
improvements to existing product lines.
- 3D CAD design of parts and products.
- Creation of technical drawings for mold tooling fabrication, QA
inspection, outsourced components, fixture and jig fabrication,
assembly/exploded diagrams, and Government RFP's/Tenders.
- Prototyping of new parts and products utilizing 3D printers,
CNCs, milling machines, lathes, and various hand tools and
techniques.
- Analysis of part and/or product design for mechanical strength
and durability as well as moldability and manufacturability
utilizing FEA and MoldFlow software.
- Product documentation, costing and Bill of Material generation
using company ERP system.
- Product IP documentation and collaboration with Patent
Attorneys.
- Product testing and evaluation, utilizing both internal testing
procedures and coordination with 3rd party testing agencies as
required.
- Coordination with various departments such as Quality,
Manufacturing, Molding, Supply Chain, Inventory, Shipping and
Management to ensure smooth product releases, root cause analysis
when issues arise assisting with their resolutions, and
manufacturing support as issues arise during production.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 (three) to 5 (five+) years of experience with Product Design
in a hands-on product development and manufacturing
environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related
Engineering discipline.
- Plastic part design for injection molding. Design for
moldability.
- Proficiency with mechanical engineering design principles -
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of fabrication techniques (3D printing, CNC a
plus).
- Proficient with CAD (SolidWorks preferred, CSWP a plus),
engineering drawing interpretation, and GD&T.
- Experience using FEA software, Solidworks Simulation experience
a plus.
- Understanding of Injection Molding processes and the software
tools used to analyze flow characteristics of plastic in a mold
tool. MoldFlow, Solidworks Plastics knowledge a plus.
- Understanding of advanced mathematical concepts and
applications.
- Ability to work independently with consultative direction
toward program goals and objectives in a team environment.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and
draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence,
and procedure manuals
- Ability to source parts and interact with vendors.
- Ability to work as a member of a fast-paced engineering design
