- Serves as department lead in ensuring departmental strategies
are appropriately implemented and all goals are met in all areas of
responsibilities as outlined below.
- Serves as department lead in an advisory capacity for staff and
residents, including providing coaching and consultation in, all
areas of responsibilities as outlined below.
- Serves as department lead in in developing proposals and
recommendations as it relates to all areas of responsibilities as
outlined below The Director of Housing Operations serves the
department as a senior professional responsible for directing
functions and personnel for the following areas of
responsibility:
- Main Housing and Residence Life office operation, including
main desk reception operation and all customer service efforts
related to areas of responsibilities
- Housing contract in-take, processing and management processes
for more than 3,700++ residential beds
- Resident room and roommate assignment process for more than
3,700 residential beds
- Resident move-in and move-out processes and events
- Marketing efforts, including oversight of departmental website
and social media
- Communication and information technology systems, including the
residential management system (currently StarRez)
- Serves as the department's chief information officer as it
relates to mass communications to residential students for direct
areas of responsibility
- Campus partner initiatives, including but not limited to,
Enrollment Services, including Financial Aid, Scholarship and
Strategic Initiative, One-Stop Student Services, Admissions,
Welcome Center, New Student and Parent Orientation, Enrollment
Services Processing, Records and Registrations and Enrollment
Services Communications; International Center, Athletics,
Information Technology Services, Procurement Services, Dean of
Students Office as it relates to Care Services, including Nesting
Place efforts for homeless students; Dining Services
- Staffing efforts during all Admissions events, including but
not limited to, new student orientation, open houses and general
campus tour events
- Guest and summer conference/camp housing efforts and
services
- Leads department efforts to maintain the Housing Operations
standard operations procedures manual
- Assists Senior Director in the development of the annual
department auxiliary budget in excess of $20 million dollars,
- Monitors and provides statistical analysis of occupancy on an
on-going basis
- Counsels students and families, and other members of the
university community, in determining student housing needs
- Shares in policy development, interpretation and enforcement in
matters related to functional areas within Housing and Residence
Life
- Manages associated Housing Operations budgets, including
personnel expenses
- Oversees department inventory management of technology hardware
and peripherals
- Assists Senior Director with regard to department office space
assignment and usage
- Participates in University crisis management and response as
necessary
- Participates in Senior Staff on-call rotation (weekly
rotation)
- Represents department on University committees and special
projects
- Works with and at times directs third-party vendors/contractors
associated with housing operations
- Receives training and serves as an active member of the
Incident Management Team
- In conjunction with the Director of Residence Life, assigns and
manages department Building Emergency Coordinators
- Direct supervision and evaluation of the following Housing and
Residence Life staff members: Associate Director of Housing
Operations; Office Manager; support/clerical staff; In-direct
supervision of Assistant Director of Housing Operations
(Assignments, Guest/Conference Housing), Housing Assignments
Specialist, 2 Program Assistants, 2-4 Office Assistants
- Works collaboratively on a regular basis with Director of
Residence Life, Associate Director of Housing Facilities and
Assistant Director of Budgets
- This job description provides an outline of major job functions

there will be times where staff will be called to service based on
the needs of the department that may not be outlined in a job
description. Housing & Residence Life professionals need to be
flexible and realize other duties will be assigned as needed.
Percentage Of Time 100 Marginal Functions In the absence of the
Senior Director of Housing and Residence Life, Director of Housing
Operations may act as the supervisor of overall Housing and
Residence Life department. May serve on a variety of University
committees representing the interests of the department and
division; May travel to professional conferences to represent
department as needed; Provides support to functions outside the
department which have University-wide or Academic and Student
Affairs significance; Attends University special events as
required. Required Qualifications A Master's degree from a
regionally accredited college or university in a directly related
area of specialization and six years of experience directly related
to the job functions; or a Bachelor's degree from a regionally
accredited college or university in a directly related area of
specialization and eight years of experience directly related to
the job functions. Faculty Position Required Qualifications N/A
Departmental Requirements Preference will be given to persons who
are currently directly involved in a housing and/or residence life
program and who have demonstrated ability in housing operations
logistics; a thorough knowledge of student and human development
theories; demonstrated leadership skills and abilities; direct
experience with housing and residence life leadership and
development; experience with housing and residence life operations.
The position of Director requires the ability to review written
documents, manuals, journals and publications; operate office
equipment including PC/printer/duplicating equipment as well as
being able to assist others in doing so. Visual and auditory
abilities sufficient to: monitor and inspect housing facilities for
safety violations, cleanliness and suitability for habitation,
respond to emergencies, recognize fire alarms, recognize facial
structures for security purposes, recognize obstructed stairwells,
recognize missing smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, loose
railings, cracked sidewalks and landing and be able to monitor
adherence, to rules and policies published in the Resident
Handbook; Must have the abilities to provide clear instructions and
directions in emergencies situations where rapid and clear
communication is essentials; Interaction with parents, students,
faculty, staff and other community members in person, via
radio/on-call phone, on the telephone and in enforcing rules,
regulations, and safety functions. Physically must be able to
ascend stairwells to gain access to 2nd and 3rd story apartments
(no elevator access), ascend narrow spiral stairwells to gain
access to lofty bedroom units. Meets with professional level staff
including Senior Director, Associate Directors, Assistant Directors
and Coordinators on a regular basis to develop and carry out
policies and procedures. Meets with students, staff, community
members, faculty, contracted vendors and others. Directs the
development of trainings, selection and evaluation processes for
all levels of staff.
Works independently most of the time but has weekly contact with
supervisor. Evaluated by the Senior Director of Housing and
Residence Life annually or as needed. This position will have
on-call responsibility and will be expected to respond via cell
phone quickly to assist staff in situations related to resident
policy enforcement and student care Additionally, there will be
occasional evening, holiday and weekend responsibilities.

position may also require a credit check.
This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (
CSA ). This position has been designated as a CSA because it
involves significant responsibility for student and campus
activities and/or responsibility for campus security. As such, any
person in this position must report to the University Police
Department a crime or an incident that might be a crime that he/she
becomes aware of. This position has a reporting requirement because
the University believes that responsibility for students, campus
activities and/or campus security will make the holder of this
position someone members of the University community will see as an
authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is
not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal
incident actually took place. A CSA's responsibility is a duty to
report. All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete

The holder of this position is designated as a "Responsible
