Salary Range
10 month: $35,538.28 - $43,038.28 annually (paid biweekly over
26-pays) This range is inclusive of verified experience and
education.
Hours
Monday - Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Your Specific Responsibilities
Provide age/special needs appropriate nursing care to school age
student patients ranging from preschool to 22 years of age.
Including assessment of student patient needs specific to their
age. Nursing care is planned, interventions are performed to assure
those needs are met and evaluated for effectiveness of nursing
care. Health care services are provided according to physician
orders, nursing clinical guidelines, FSDB and HCC policies and
procedure and in accordance with FS 464 and FAC 64B9. Establishes
and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the student. Performs
interventions according to level of education and practice and per
physician orders. Assures that interventions are safe, timely,
ethical and appropriate and with scope of practice for RN. Modifies
interventions based on continuous assessment. Documents in a
retrievable form for access, analysis and research. Serves as a
health care liaison among the student, nurse, physician, family,
academic and residential staff to provide a continuum of care for
the student. Promotes student's personal and social integration.
Reinforces healthy behaviors and interaction patterns and helps
modify or discontinue unhealthy ones. Integrates patient teaching
into every student encounter. Communicates in a timely manner with
family, academic and residential staff following all student
encounters and prior to initiation of all medical treatments and
interventions. Establishes and conducts health care Inservice and
patient teaching for students, staff and families. Continually
evaluates student progress. Documents patient teaching
interventions, communication, crisis intervention, medication
education, behavior modification. Prioritizes and collects data
based on the patient's immediate health care need or medical
condition. Completes a comprehensive history of personal and health
factors, medical treatment and prior treatment. Collects data from
multiple sources using a variety of methods. Involves the student,
significant others, and interdisciplinary team members in the
assessment process and data analysis. Assures that the assessment
process is systematic and ongoing. Bases data collection on
clinical judgment. Documents the database in synthesized,
prioritized and retrievable form. Evaluates self and peers to
assure provision of competent clinical care. Takes action to
achieve goal/s and improve performance. Maintains current knowledge
in nursing practice. Participates in professional activities to
improve professional knowledge and enhance role performance.
Documents educational activities. Interacts with and contributes to
the professional development of peers and others as colleagues.
Assists others in identifying teaching/learning needs related to
clinical care. Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration.
Contributes to a supportive and healthy work environment.
Assessments, actions and recommendations on behalf of students are
determined and implemented in an ethical manner. Collaborates with
the student, significant others and health care clinicians in
providing health care. Contributes to nursing, medical, educational
research through the use of research methods and findings including
participation in data collection. Considers factors related to
safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering health
care. Develops a plan of care that is negotiated among the student,
nurse, significant others and treatment team and prescribes
evidence-based interventions to attain expected outcomes.
Individualizes plan to include patient's characteristics, needs,
health problems and conditions. Develops plan of care in
collaboration with others. Documents plan in a retrievable form for
access and modification. Evaluates in a systematic, ongoing and
criterion-based manner. Involves student, family and others in the
evaluation. Documents student response to treatment and
interventions in analytical terms. Develops nursing diagnosis and
problem statements from data. Develops nursing diagnosis based on
accepted classification systems. Discusses and verifies nursing
diagnoses and risk factors with patient. Assures that the nursing
diagnoses and clinical impressions are documented in a manner that
facilitates the identification of patient outcomes and their use in
the plan of care. Derives outcome from nursing diagnosis. Assures
that outcomes are student-oriented, evidence based, therapeutically
sound, realistic, attainable and cost-effective. Documents outcomes
as measurable goals. Other related duties.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of nursing for
the school aged child and special needs child. Ability to utilize
the nursing process and to collaborate with other health care
clinicians is required. Ability to effectively communicate in
English verbally and in writing and electronically. Ability to
learn to communicate effectively in sign language. Knowledge of
general supervisory techniques. Ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with others. Skill and ability to
provide professional, effective and confidential customer service.
Knowledge of basic computer software. Knowledge and ability to
operate a motor vehicle and maintain Florida classified driver's
license. Knowledge and ability to learn and perform CPI. Skill and
ability to use manual and electronic medical equipment including
pulse oximeter, hemocue, glucometer, dynamap. Ability to
successfully complete Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare
Providers. Ability to complete training and administer skills
acquired during CPR.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with
Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance
with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27.
Condition of Employment
Applicants under consideration for employment at the Florida School
for the Deaf and the Blind will be required to complete background
investigation. Fingerprints will be taken and sent to the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of
Investigation for a background check of your criminal history
record(s) at the state and national level.
Sign Language Requirements
Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an
Intermediate proficiency in sign language, within four years of
hire.

education to acquire sign language skills.
