Description:General Summary of Certified Medical Assistant
Duties: Provide office support to Physicians
Supervision Received: Reports directly to the Clinic Manager
Supervision Exercised: None
Typical Physical Demands: Work requires physical hand dexterity and full range of motion for operation of office equipment and assisting nurse in clinic. Requires ability to work under stressful or emergency situations with high concentration and energy level.
Typical Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. Involves contact with patients and family members as well as referring physicians and their office staff. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquires.
Certified Medical Assistant duties consist of:

• Schedule surgical cases, arteriograms, and other testing as ordered by physicians. Document scheduled cases/testing into electronic health record.
• Give patient complete instructions for procedures and testing and document confirmation of such.
• Enter recalls in system as required.
• Schedule follow up recall appointments
• Receive calls from referring physicians and coordinate patient transfers as ordered by physician.
• Take hospital consults and call to physician and/or physician assistant.
• Answer phones as needed. Conference physicians as needed.
• Prepare electronic chart for clinic ensuring all information is present for patient consultation. Order films as required for visits.
• Call patient to schedule new consult appointments as received via fax maker. Mail patient paperwork to each patient.
• Enter new patient paperwork into EHR system as needed and/or assist with Phreesia pad.
• Scan medical documentation into electronic chart.
• Take patient vitals and room patients as needed.
• Answer phones as needed.
• Maintain information in a confidential manner.
• Participate in compliance training for the office.
• Other duties assigned.Requirements:Performance requirements of the Certified Medical Assistant:Knowledge of business office procedures. Ability to take patient vitals. Basic understanding of cardiac, thoracic and vascular specialty as it relates to office functioning. Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type patient information. Skill in operating a computer and photocopy machine. Skill in greeting patients and answering telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
  Education: High School Graduate, Completion of Medical Assistant certification program preferred. It must be a Certified Medical Assistant.
  Experience: One year in a medical setting. Knowledge of medical terminology. Word processing and computer experience with electronic health records.
