accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct
patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The
RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings
and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient
and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Nursing Care
Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing,
evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for
assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice
provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides
leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and
formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN
delegates patient care according to skill level, experience,
patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of
resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is
skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on

committees or projects. What do Pre-Op/PACU Nurses do at Mayo
Clinic? • Focuses on the phases of patient care before and
immediately following a surgical procedure, however they do not
perform the actual surgery. This includes Pre-Op, Phase 1 PACU and
Phase 2 PACU. • Assess, quickly identify and resolve pre-operative
issues. • Starting and monitoring IVs, administering pre-operative
medications and performing pre-operative instruction and
explanation of patient's rights and procedures. • In the PACU (Post
Anesthesia Care Unit), the nurse will provide care for post-op
patients recovering from general, regional, and local anesthesia. •
Traditional Onboarding – 12- week clinical orientation designed for
nurses with Preop/PACU or higher acuity level experience. • Fast
paced, Critical Care Nursing Concepts • On Call: Weekday (Mon-Fri)
approximately 1 per 4-week schedule, 2130-0730 • On Call: Weekend
Saturday and Sunday, 12-hour shift approximately every 13th-14th
weekend. Pre-Op/PACU Department Snapshot • 72 Pre-Op/PACU Beds •
105 Nurses • 10 Patient Care Techs and 5 Clinical Assistants •
Pre-Op ratio-1 RN : 3 patients • Phase 1 PACU ratio-1 RN : 2
patients • Phase 2 PACU ratio-1 RN : 3 patients • Fast-paced unit
utilizing critical care nursing concepts This role is eligible for
TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure
and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
Qualifications All associate degree or diploma registered nurses
hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after
April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program
completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an
accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the
month of their RN start date. All entry-level associate degree
registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must
provide documented evidence of program completion of a
baccalaureate degree in nursing program as stipulated by the degree
requirement program in place at time of hire. • Graduate of a
nursing program • Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program
preferred, but not required. • One year of RN experience in an
applicable care setting is preferred. • Excellent communication
skills (verbal and written). • Experience working in a team
environment. • Computer skills required, prior experience with
electronic medical record systems preferred. • Ability to work
flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays,
and weekends and on-call. • Ability to adapt to unpredictable
situations within the work setting. • Demonstrated leadership,
effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
License or Certification: • Current RN license by applicable state
requirements. • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. •
Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work
area. ACLS required in Florida. Exemption Status Nonexempt
