Job Description:
Duties--- You will direct, control, monitor, interpret and seek
resolution to matters pertaining to the effective planning and
conduct of Environmental and safety programs.--- You will provide
guidance to other Environmental Protection Specialists,
environmental and safety personnel in performing a full range of
duties required to maintain command-wide compliance with hazardous
materials and waste management laws.--- You will serve as the lead
technical expert in specialized areas related to environmental
issues for SERMC.--- You will research and implement the latest
changes/developments in the environmental and safety laws and
regulation as they apply to SERMC responsibilities.--- You will act
as the Division Head's representative when required, advising top
management and staff.--- You will provide leadership and guidance
to other environmental and safety personnel on internal
environmental and safety policies and processes to follow in the
effective implementation of environmental and safety oversight
functionsRequirements Conditions of Employment--- Must be a US

examinationQualifications To qualify for the ENVIRONMENTAL
PROTECTION SPECIALIST, GS-0028-12, your resume must demonstrate at
least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent
to the level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the GS-11
grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent
experience in the private or public sectorSpecialized experience
must demonstrate the following:--- Experience working with and
having comprehensive knowledge of the requirements of the National
Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related laws such as the; US
DOT Transportation Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and Toxic
Substances Control Act.--- Experience with Environmental Management
Systems, Hazardous materials management, and Hazardous Waste
Management.--- Experience developing and implementing programs,
policies, regulations, guidelines, standards, procedures,
techniques and/or initiatives related to environmental issues.---
Experience in and ability to develop methodology for Internal
Compliance Reviews, to assess program accomplishments and
operational activities.--- Experience developing and managing
environmental programs in accordance with policy, regulatory
agencies, federal, state and local laws and regulations.---
Experience conducting environmental compliance inspections and day
to day management of the Environmental Protection Program.---
Experience in and ability to develop and present environmental
training to various groups.--- Experience reviewing work
specifications and other contract documents to ensure adequate
environmental requirements are invoked.--- Experience in and
ability to initiate and prepare correspondence to contractor and
other government agencies with regard to administration of
contractually required environmental programs.--- Experience in and
ability to develop, implement and maintain strategic environmental
reports and metric for the department.--- Experience providing
policies, engineering controls and procedures regarding hazardous
waste minimization efforts and updated information regarding change
in policy and state and federal regulations to generating
activities.--- Experience in and ability to advise leadership on
all environmental issues, provide updates, identify concerns, and
provide recommendations and solutions.--- Experience in and ability
to review and advise on the interpretation and implementation of
and compliance with environmental policy directives and programs
that embrace range of subjects that directly or indirectly affect
the command mission, protection of the environment and natural
resources.--- Experience and proficient in communicating
