EOE-Minorities/Females/Disabled/Veterans Click here for more information on the collection of Veterans and Disability information. 2767: Machinist I Position Code 2767 Job Status Full Time Location Jacksonville, FL Division Tech Services - Manufacturing Department Training Device Manufacturing Job Summary: The Machinist I is a novice level position that performs hand and machine operations to cut, form, fit, assemble, and install various metals, plastics and composites used in the manufacturing, repair, and modification of training systems. Essential Job Functions: Plan work sequence, repair methods, equipment needs and material requirements from engineering drawings, applicable specifications, contractor and vendor drawings, and repair manuals. Examines and evaluates damage, wear, misalignments and other deficiencies. Use fixtures when available to determine proper alignments of major points, proper dihedral, and incidence angles. Apply shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads, machining angular surfaces, or locating and marking surfaces that need to be machined. Program machining operations, and set up and operate CNC machine tools. Lay out and manufacture parts such as splices, reinforcements, inspection plates, clips, angles, brackets, etc. Operate one or more than one type of machine tool such as a grinding machine, engine lathe, and milling machine to machine metal for use in making or maintaining jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, or metal dies or molds used in shaping or forming metal. Plan and perform machining operations that require complicated setups and or a high degree of accuracy, setting up guides, stops, working tables, and other controls to handle the size of stock to be machined. Determine proper feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequence or selects those prescribed in drawings, blueprints, or layouts. Work using a variety of precision measuring instruments, making necessary adjustments during machining operations to achieve requisite dimensions to very close tolerances, or - .005. Set up and operate machine tools, and using hand tools to make repairs, shape, fit, finish, and assemble metal parts, tools, gauges, models, patterns, mechanisms, and machines. Select the coolant and cutting and lubricating oils and fluids to dress tools when required. Must be capable of safely handling government furnished equipment and materials. Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required. Perform other duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires good comprehension in reading, interpreting engineering drawings repair manuals and related technical data and a knowledge of and skill in the use of tools and techniques of rework and repair. Must be capable of performing to the expected level of proficiency. Requires knowledge and probable effects of various loads and stresses applied to structures such as compression, tensile, and shear, and the ability to recognize an overloaded or over stressed condition. Follow standard machining practices. Current security clearance preferred, ability to obtain a security clearance required. Must have own basic Machinist tools. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: A minimum of two (2) years experience of related experience required. A background in commercial or military aircraft manufacturing/repair/installation is preferred.
