Job Purpose

As the Analyst for the Coffee Lab, you will be responsible for supporting the maintenance of green coffee quality for Kraft Heinz's North American coffee retail business, ensuring the quality of green coffee meets our high standards through day-to-day lab evaluations of tendered coffee. You will conduct intensive roasting, grading, and steep cup flavor evaluations for all incoming green coffee, as well as handling coffee quality data in our proprietary systems. This role will also partner and collaborate with several cross-functional areas (Procurement, Operations, Logistics, and R&D) and suppliers as the quality lead for the Green Coffee Office (GCO).

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Assists with management of day-to-day Green Coffee Quality Lab operations, including the management and maintenance of all Green Coffee specifications and standard operating procedures.
  • Lead daily quality lab evaluations, including training of cup and defect level demonstration. Performs daily sample testing using steep cup flavor method evaluation, group discussion, and physical evaluations of defect levels on suspect coffee samples. The role is responsible for evaluating approximately -225MMlbs of green coffee annually.
  • Evaluate coffee type offerings and provide the Procurement team with recommendations for spot purchases to maintain business continuity.
  • Manage and support multisite quality certification programs, including Rain-forest Alliance. Responsible for facilitating cross-functional meetings providing program mentorship, conducting reviews with marketing, plant operations, and labeling to ensure program compliance, and schedule annual audits and coordinate closure of findings to maintain certification.
  • Responsible for making quality decisions for Procurement on coffee tendered, including issuing rejection letters providing the explanation for the rejection.
  • Manage and maintain systems and tools supporting our quality assurance programs, including generating routine reports and sharing with applicable business partners. Serve as the primary point of contact for SAP upgrades and troubleshooting.
  • Support logistics, inventory planning, KHC sampler, and suppliers with issues that occur for supply or container issues.
  • Supports expedited decision making and information flow to minimize supply impact to manufacturing operations.
  • Maintain trust and foster a strong business relationship with Dupuy, a critical business partner, by actively participating in daily green Coffee supply/demand calls and developing action plans.
  • Collaboratively partner with business in identifying and implementing novel and creative means for reducing costs and improving quality.
  • Build and foster effective supplier relationships and performance accountability including conducting business reviews and ensuring that service targets are achieved. Includes acting as the quality lead for supplier visits.
  • Participates in commercialization meetings related to green coffee, supporting R&D and business development activities.
  • Update and manage all working files on GCO TeamSite. Responsible for updating and maintaining information related to offerings, pre-shipments, standard contract, etc. which is utilized as a tool for green coffee team members (quality, buyer, traffic).
  • Assist R&D partners with sample and information requests as it relates the business.
  • Support technical research programs through educating and training R&D partners on green coffee lab procedures crafting a center of excellence, supporting future blend development and projects.


    Expected Experience & Required Skills
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in food science or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates with Q Grader qualifications are highly preferred.
    • 3+ years of experience in the food industry, manufacturing, or a related field. Experience in green coffee quality, blending, sensory, grading, and coffee organoleptic skills are highly beneficial.
    • Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills, as well as interpersonal and presentation skills.
    • Ability to understand, prioritize, and communicate sophisticated information in an easily understandable format tailored to a variety of audiences.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, support requests from, and interact directly across all levels of the organization.

    • Have strong analytical, planning, and execution skills, including exceptional attention to detail.
    • Possess a strategic mindset; can effectively articulate various perspectives and impacts of issues and understand the future impact to the business. Able to see all sides and the inherent value to stakeholders.
    • Able to multitask and juggle projects at varying levels of complexity.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), have an understanding for source-to-pay tools (SAP, Ariba, etc.), and quality management systems.
    • May require travel up to 10% of the time, extended hours, and weekends as necessary.

      Office Collaboration & Hybrid Work Environment
